INTERNAL MEDICINE INTEREST GROUP

SACRAMENTO FOOD BANK

"As members of the Internal Medicine Interest group, we were able to extend a helping hand at the Sacramento Food Bank in Natomas. Due to the high rates of unemployment and poverty in Sacramento, the ability for residents to support themselves is getting more difficult. Sacramento Food Bank’s initiative is to provide food, educational services, job interview training for these families in order for them to get back on their feet. As volunteers at the food bank, we sorted food that was generously donated grocery stores, regional farm and the community that will be later available to these families at no cost. Being able to help the community was not only a good study break, but it was empowering to witness the widespread efforts to close the health gap in Sacramento."
